Tarte Tatin
A classic French upside-down caramelized apple tart that's sure to impress!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 6-8 medium apples (Granny Smith or Golden Delicious), peeled, cored, and quartered
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- Flour, for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375�F (190�C).
- In an ovenproof skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sugar and cook, stirring occasionally, until the mixture turns a golden caramel color, about 8-10 minutes.
- Arrange the apple quarters in the caramel in a circular pattern, with the rounded sides down. Continue to cook for about 5-7 minutes.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry to fit over the skillet. Carefully place the pastry over the apples, tucking the edges inside the skillet.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes. Carefully invert the tart onto a serving plate.
- Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of cr�me fra�che.
